Review: Sam Kendricks wins gold medal at the 2017 World Championships (Includes first-hand account)

A native of Mississippi, Kendricks was able to successfully clear 5.95 meters on his third attempt, and he cleared five previous heights on his first try (5.50 meters, 5.65 meters, 5.75 meters, 5.82 meters and 5.89 meters respectively). Polish pole vaulter Piotr Lisek earned the silver medal with a clearance of 5.89 meters (which he accomplished on his first try), and indoor world record holder Renaud Lavillenie in third place, taking home the bronze, with 5.89 meters (which the Frenchman cleared on his second attempt). 2015 World Champion, Canadian pole vaulter Shawn Barber came in eight place with 5.65 meters, and 2011 World Champion Paweł Wojciechowski came in fifth with 5.75 meters.

This year, Kendricks has been unstoppable in every major pole vault competition, ranging from four IAAF Diamond League events (Shanghai, Eugene, Paris and Lausanne) that he competed in, as well as the 2017 U.S. Championships, where he set a personal best of 6.00 meters, thus becoming the fifth American pole vaulter in history to clear six meters. At the same time, Kendricks earned his seventh national title in America.

Congratulations Sam Kendricks!
