Review: Sam Kendricks wins first place in Rome, sets season best (Includes first-hand account)

Kendricks was able to successfully clear the bar at 5.84 meters on his third attempt, which was enough to secure him the win. In doing so, he set a new season best.

Polish pole vaulter Pawel Wojciechowski came in second place with a season best of 5.78 meters, and German pole vaulter Raphael Holzdeppe came in third place with a season best of 5.62 meters.

Most recently, Kendricks won first place at the 2018 Prefontaine (Pre) Classic in Eugene, Oregon, which was in memory of American runner Steve Prefontaine.

Kendricks also offered insights on how to pole vault, where he filmed a video that may be seen on the IAAF Diamond League official YouTube channel.

Kendricks came in second place at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, United Kingdom, this past March, and he is the reigning IAAF World Outdoor Champion in pole vault. At the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Kendricks claimed the bronze medal for Team USA.
