Kendricks cleared the bar at 5.85 meters on his first attempt, which was enough to secure him the win; moreover, Kendricks cleared all of the seven heights in the men’s pole vault competition that he attempted at the USA Track and Field Championships on his first try. He failed at three attempts at 5.90 meters.
Chris Nilsen from South Dakota finished in second place with 5.80 meters, and Cole Walsh finished in third place with 5.75 meters. Scott Houston came in fourth place with 5.70 meters.
In May, Kendricks won the 2018 Prefontaine (Pre) Classic in Eugene, Oregon. Earlier this year, Kendricks claimed the silver medal at the 2018 World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, and last year, Kendricks was was named world champion at the 2017 World Championships in London, and IAAF Diamond League champion.
