Review: Sam Kendricks triumphs at IAAF Diamond League in Lausanne (Includes first-hand account)

Kendricks was able to clear 5.93 meters on his second attempt, which was enough to secure him first place, where he simultaneously set a new meeting record in Lausanne. After a heated match, Polish pole vaulter Paweł Wojciechowski came in second place with 5.93 meters, which he cleared on his third and final attempt. Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie was third after vaulting over 5.87 meters, which was Lavillenie’s season best. Teen pole vaulter Armand “Mondo” Duplantis came in seventh place with 5.73 meters.

This summer, Kendricks has won first place in such IAAF Diamond League competitions as Shanghai, China, as well as Eugene, Oregon (The Prefontaine Classic), and last week, in Paris, France.

This season, Kendricks also set a personal best of six meters at the USATF Outdoor Championships. This marked his seventh career win at the U.S. Championships.
