Kendricks illustrated the three different parts of the pole vault, especially since it is a complicated event. He went over the run-up (where a tape measure comes in handy), the bungee (or bar to illustrate the obstacle above them) and the actual pole. While every pole vaulter uses the same runway, he noted that they all use it in different ways, and explained the mathematics and physics of the sport. He subsequently went over the rules of the sport. Overall, this is an informative video and step-by-step tutorial that answers many questions that viewers and sports fans might have about pole vault. His passion for his sport is evident throughout the video.
The entire video entitled “How To Pole Vault with Sam Kendricks” may be seen on the official IAAF Diamond League YouTube channel. Last year, Kendricks was IAAF Diamond League Champion in pole vault.
Most recently, on May 25, Kendricks won first place in the men’s pole vault competition at the 2018 Prefontaine (Pre) Classic at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, which was in memory of the late Steve Prefontaine. Teenage pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis finished in second place.
