Suncorp Stadium can accommodate 55,000 guests and with about 60 percent of tickets sold out with 45 days to go before fight night, there is little doubt tickets will be sold out completely days before fight.
Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters is amazed at how fast the tickets are selling.
“Tremendous, absolutely tremendous, never seen anything like it, really, “Arum told BoxingScene.com in a recent interview. “The whole country is engaged in it. The ticket sales have been absolutely enormous. It’s trending towards a sell-out which will be around 55,000 and I’m sure that we’ll be up around past 40,000 by next week and on our way to a complete sell-out.” Arum added.
Arum and Pacquiao recently traveled to Australia to kick off the media tour for the July 2 event. He said the reception accorded by the Australians were unbelievable.
“Horn has resonated with the public in Australia. I think Pacquiao is an icon. The reception that they gave Pacquiao was unbelievable and Pacquiao appeals to the Australians because of his humble nature and they fell in love with him. I just think it’s the perfect storm as far as the opponent for Manny Pacquiao. And remember there’s 250,000 Filipino’s how live in Australia,” pointed out Arum.
The Horn fight is the first overseas bout for Pacquiao since Arum’s announcement saying the Filipino star won’t be fighting in the US for the remainder of his career unless a financially viable offer is made for him to resume fighting there. Read more:
Meanwhile Pacquiao’s longtime trainer Freddie Roach, who was unable to join Arum and Pacquiao during the media tour in Australia, has yet to rejoin Pacquiao in Manila for the first phase of training for the Horn fight.
Pacquiao will be training in the Philippines for about six weeks before moving to Brisbane for the second and final phase of his training.
