Except for the fight date and the final determination of the final purse sharing, they have agreed even to the smallest details of the fight when Pacquiao agreed to face Mayweather on March 13, 2009.
Pacquiao reportedly signed the final copy of the contract in 2009 but denied having done so, saying there were some some more issues that needs to be cleared.
In the agreement that Pacquiao reportedly signed five years ago, nearly all the details of the fight seemed to have been sorted out which include among other things the fight purse (50-50), the billing (whose name will come first in the billboards and on print and broadcast media) , who will enter the ring first and other small details.
The aborted fight contract even required both fighters to submit themselves to Olympic Style drug testing as reported by Wikipedia quoting Yahoo Sports in 2009.
Mayweather’s last minute refusal to sign the contract in 2009 has long been attributed to his fear of losing to Pacquiao when they were both in their primes.
Even now the random blood and urine testing that Mayweather is pushing, is being perceived by fans as nothing else but a ploy to get Pacquiao out of his way so he can fight less capable opponents to preserve his unbeaten record.
With nowhere else to go following Pacquiao’s relentless efforts to engage the unbeaten American on social media, Mayweather has to appease the raving fans by declaring his intention to finally face Pacquiao in the ring on May 2.
With his announcement, fans celebrated as they look forward to watching the fight they have long wanted to see.
But the celebration was short-lived because Mayweather has not shown any more action other that his live CBS/Showtime announcement that would lead to his signing of the final fight contract.
Oviously, Mayweather wants Pacquiao to get out of his way and leave him alone in his quest for supremacy and to cement his legacy in the sport.
But what he failed to understand is that an immaculate record does not guarantee his legacy in the sport without facing his last remaining hurdle
Pacquiao, who has agreed to everything that Mayweather wanted to secure the fight, has nothing more to offer other than to make himself available for Mayweagther to salvage his failing legacy in the sport.
