Three consecutive, of very high prestige, tournaments have been the Spanish property. It all started in 2008 in Austria when they grabbed their European Championship in football. Then they went to South Africa where they were crowned as the World Cup winners for the first time in their history and now they are the champions of Europe back again.

Iker Cassillas is the guy who spanned these three very important football events and touched the cup with his own hands. Italy, still in second place, was in a shadow of Vicente del Bosque

The question remains if Germany could have outplayed Spain in the final game if they didn’t fail to Italy. Well, now it’s only a theoretical speculations. Anyway, if that question is still important, there’s something really nice that Spain has to thank the Italians for and Balotelli in particular – eliminating the Germans.

The game itself was a show off of strategy, tactics and (almost) perfect execution in one package. Almost, because it could have been even a higher score. Italy supposedly got burnt out after the game with Germany which may have also contributed to this subconscious we-are-the-best type of syndrome. The team of Italian class cannot afford thinking about this and that way, even if Germany may have had this very one worse day in a year.

After scoring twice in the first half and getting their very sure comfort zone before switching the fields, the Spanish showed one-sided set of skills while upsetting the Italians playing in 10 man team. Two substitutes, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata sealed the result in the last six minutes of the game.
