Quigg is set to face Kiko Martinez on the same day Donaire fights Settoul at the Venetian Resort and Casino in Macau, China.
If Quigg beats beats Martinez in their title fight at the Manchester Arena, Manchester, Greater Manchester in England, Donaire will have a good chance of facing Quigg in a title fight.
Quigg’s trainer Joe Gallagher is more interested in a Donaire fight than a title match against Carl Frampton because of his past experience in dealing with Frampton’s handlers.
“They can dress it up all they want but Frampton was offered £1.5m. That’s a very good offer and more money than some of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s opponents get,” Gallagher said
“It’s all roads leading to Donaire. That’s a huge fight and a name that Quigg is crying out for,” he added
Gallagher is confident Quigg will defend his title against Martinez on Saturday, saying Quigg is in great shape for the title match.
“Scott is in a great place physically and mentally. He said to me at the public workout last week that he wished it was tomorrow night he was fighting,” Gallagher said.
For his part, Donaire has to make sure that he wins over Settoul or his quest for another title shot will take longer to happen.
Donaire is coming off a TKO win against William Prado of Brazil last March following his devastating loss to Nicholas Walters of Jamaica last year.
A win against Settoul could give Donaire another opportunity for a major world title fight, which could trigger a series of victories in the weight class where he is unbeatable.
Donaire has talked about the Quigg fight ahead of his fight against Settoul, saying he is very excited about a planned title fight against the British bantamweight titleholder.
Quigg is a tough opponent with 22 knockouts from his 30 pro fights. The 26-year-old undefeated British fighter has defended his WBA super bantamweight title five times in the last two years.
