Olympics: Usain Bolt wins gold in men’s 200-metre finals

Bolt is the first to defend both 100m and 200m Olympic titles in consecutive Games.

Bolt notched a season best of 19.32 in the 200-metre sprint (but it wasn’t an Olympic record). As the Guardian describes it, Bolt “was incredibly fast out of the blocks and although Johan Blake pushed him all the way, he won at his leisure and eased up before the finish. ”

In the all-Jamaican medal haul, Blake won silver with a time of 19.44 and Weir took bronze with 19.84. American Wallace Spearmon was in fifth and the Netherlands’ Churandy Martina placed sixth.

Earlier this week, Bolt, 25, made Olympic history when he joined Carl Lewis as only the second man ever to win a second gold medal in two consecutive Olympics for the men’s 100-meter dash.
