NHL Trade Rumors: Patrick Marleau to NY Rangers?

The latest reports have San Jose looking to deal veteran Patrick Marleau and with scouts from the NY Rangers on hand at recent games, it appears the 36-year-old could continue his career on the east coast.

Marleau hasn’t been happy with the Sharks start to the season, despite a 9-8-0 record and winners of their last two hockey games. The winger has four goals and five assists on the year and while not the scorer he was earlier in his career, the former first round pick is still a valuable commodity, especially for a team looking for depth and an added scoring threat on its second or third lines.

New York is off to a terrific start, but the Rangers are still looking to find the right pieces to win a Stanley Cup Championship. With a 13-2-2 mark, the 28 points they have are tied for tops in the Eastern Conference and with eight straight victories, the team is the hottest in the NHL.

The veteran has played his entire career with the Northern California hockey team, but after signing with a new agent during training camp and the Sharks not expected to challenge for a top-4 spot in the Western Conference, it appears Marleau has went to management about a possible move.

Its been reported that along with New York, the LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks are the other franchises the veteran has expressed interest in joining. Anaheim seems the most likely to look for help as an unexpected slow start to the year and the Ducks having offensive issues, could have them looking to make some changes, but no matter what team adds the left winger, he will help with his experience on and off the ice as he searches for a shot at winning a championship.
