Montreal is sitting on top of the latest power rankings as the Canadiens are 7-0-0 and lead the league with 14 points. No other squad in the Eastern Conference has over nine points through the early part of the season, and with just seven goals allowed, this squad is looking to make history with its strong start.
On the other end of the spectrum, Columbus is the only franchise without a point as the Blue Jackets are 0-7-0, not exactly the start the team or its fans where hoping for when the year began. Columbus has allowed 34 goals, by far the most in the league and forcing the organization to make a coaching change just two short weeks into the season.
St Louis is one of three teams from the Western Conference with 10 points, but the Blues have played just one home game and for that reason sit second overall. Nashville and Dallas are the other two franchise ties with St Louis and with all three teams playing in the Central Division, it could make it tough for a few of the other teams in the West to make the playoffs at years end if they continue their strong play.
The hockey scene in New York is looking good as both the Rangers and Islanders are off to a good start. Both sides have nine points, just one point ahead of Washington for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.
Out West, San Jose and Vancouver sit on top of the Pacific with eight points apiece, but the early season story is the struggle sin Los Angles as the Kings have scored just six goals, but they have won their past two hockey games.
The 2015-16 NHL season is expected to have some great story lines as the season moves forward and some great races in all divisions, terrific news for the league and its fans as the game looks to reach record numbers in attendance and TV ratings.
