NFL: Seattle fan sues New York Jets’ Shaun Ellis over snowball

The Jets’ Shaun Ellis thought the snowball incident of 2008 was over when he had to pay the NFL a fine.

If only it were that easy.

The fan who got smacked with the snow chunk is now filing a lawsuit against Ellis and the Jets, the Seattle Post-Intelligence reports. The lawsuit contends, “The consequent effects of defendant Ellis throwing the object into the stands was not just fun. When the object impacted plaintiff Larsen it caused him injury and harm.”

On Dec. 21, 2008, the Seahawks won the game against the Jets, and as the Jets left the field, Ellis pick up a bunch of snow and tossed it into the stands. The big snowball’s toss was caught on video, and the vid went viral, attracting more than 115,000 views. (We embedded the video in the article)

The video attracted media attention across the world, and NFL was quick to respond to the incident. Ellis was fined $20,000 for the snow toss.

The lawsuit did not list an amount of damages it seeks, the Seattle PI reports.

Ellis has played his entire 10-year- career with the Jets as defensive tackle. He’s averaging 2.4 tackles a game this season.
