NFL News: Griffin struggles a concern for Cleveland Browns?

Despite these hopes, it now appears the former Baylor star is showing his benching in Washington was warranted. The Redskins made the 26-year-old their top pick back in 2012 and he showed plenty during his rookie season, but since that time injuries and inconsistent play led to his benching. He didn’t play a single down of football in 2015.

Many believed a change of scenery was needed and that happened when the Browns took the gamble and added the dual-threat quarterback with a free agent contract, but after a positive start, weaknesses in his game have appeared and unfortunately it was with the media on hand to follow the team in off season training.

ESPN reported the young man has struggled to impress and his accuracy hasn’t been what the team had hoped. His leadership and courage have never been questioned, but his lack of fundamentals and consistency have many questioning his chances of making a career in the NFL.

Griffin succeeded when running the read-option offense during his first year, but since that time, confidence has clearly become an issue. Former head coach Mike Shanahan has suggested the read-option is his only chance of success and playing a prototypical signal caller isn’t a strength and will lead to more failures.

Experts are already predicting changes in 2017 with most mocks having the front office taking another quarterback in the first round next April. Walter Football believes Deshaun Watson of Clemson will likely become the new leader of this franchise heading into the future, but for Griffin, he has the preseason and 16 games in the regular season to prove the experts wrong.
