NFL legend Junior Seau found dead from apparent suicide

Police responded to Seau’s home on The Strand in Oceanside, California, on Wednesday after receiving a call about a reported suicide, as NCTimes writes. The San Diego County medical examiner’s office said an investigator was sent to the scene.

The L.A. Times writes Seau, 43, committed suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot. No other information has been released at this time.

Seau, born in San Diego, last played in the NFL as a member of the New England Patriots in 2009. He’s best known as a tough linebacker who was a fan favourite when he played on the San Diego Chargers from 1990 to 2002. He was named to the Pro Bowl 12 times and made the league’s list of All-Pro starts for 10 years.

He didn’t have the smoothest retirement. In 2010, Seau was involved in an accident in which his sport-utility vehicle went off a beachside cliff, the Times writes. “The accident occurred after he was arrested in Oceanside on suspicion of domestic violence,” it was reported.

Yahoo Sports writes Seau is the eighth member of the Chargers 1994 Super Bowl team to die.
