When Humphries fouled Celtics forward Kevin Garnett during an in-the-paint play, Rondo took exception to the hard foul. He started pushing Humphries, which attracted the attention of both teams.
The Nets’ Wallace got mixed into the brawl, pushing Garnett roughly. Rondo and Humphries ended up falling into a security guard and other people in the stands. The refs tried to intervene, but the fight carried on for a few more seconds, hidden from broadcast cameras.
Humphries, Rondo and Wallace were all ejected from the game with technical fouls. It’s unclear if they’ll be slapped with any further suspensions.
As the Sporting News writes, “The ejection of Rondo will have an impact on the NBA’s history books, too, as he entered the game tied with John Stockton for the second-longest streak with 10 or more assists.” He left the game with three assists.
The fight began with 29.5 seconds in the first half and the Celtics trailing by a score of 51-36.
The Nets ended up winning over the Celtics 95-83.
