NBA Trade Rumors: Taj Gibson to Toronto Raptors?

Despite losing three key contributors during the off season, the addition of DeMarre Carroll, Cory Joseph, and the recent signing of Luis Scola will help, especially on the defensive end of the court, but nothing was done to add some muscle in the paint and for this squad to contend for a top-4 spot again in the Eastern Conference. It appears a trade is needed before the start of training camp.

Bleacher Report writer Dan Favale has reported that several veterans could move before the start of the upcoming season. One player that looks on the way out is Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson and his style of play would be perfect north of the border.

Gibson isn’t one of the best offensive players in the game, but his presence in the paint and willingness to out-hustle the opposition make him a great fit for a squad looking to change their style of play. The 30-year-old has averaged over 11 points and six rebounds over the last two seasons, not bad numbers for a player that is on the floor for just 27 minutes per night.

A deal with Toronto could make the former USC star a starter for the first time in his career and a big increase in numbers should follow. Gibson can shut down the opposition and protect the rim with his size and determination, but best of all he would give the Toronto Raptors another player with big game experience and the leadership they need.

The youngsters on the team have made great progress in the Summer League and gives the team and its fans hope for the future, but a trade for a solid veteran could make a big difference in the franchise now and for a team that doesn’t make too many appearances in the NBA Playoffs, it could create the winning mentality this organization needs.
