One of the biggest names reportedly on the trading block is Detroit Pistons big man Greg Monroe. Despite the recent release of Josh Smith and the team now playing its best basketball, finding some help in the back court is a must for the ‘Motor City’ team.
Rumors have the NY Knicks as one of the franchises looking at the 24-year-old and for good reason. With the worst record in the league and injuries playing a big role in a disastrous season, team president Phil Jackson needs to do something to bring some good news to the fans as they try to rebuild around Carmelo Anthony.
Anthony resigned with the Knicks hoping to win a championship, but nobody could have predicted the poor showing and winning just five games with the halfway point of the season nearing, but Jackson and ownership are in this to win and it could start with a big move before the trade deadline.
The former first round pick is averaging nearly 15 points and 10 rebounds on the year. His ability to play either power forward or center creates some versatility for coaches and his age makes him a great fit for a team trying to get younger, but add more talent in the process.
Monroe was mentioned in trade talks last year as Andre Drummond continues to progress as an NBA player. A trade now could land Detroit a veteran player and a couple of draft picks, something this team needs to add more talent to their roster.
New York is just looking to add a positive note to this year and with plenty of money available this summer to add some free agent talent, making a deal now for the youngster would allow the franchise to move forward this summer and possibly add the players needed to make a run at the NBA Playoffs next season.
