NBA Trade Rumors: Greg Monroe to New Orleans Pelicans?

The biggest loss of the off season was Ryan Anderson leaving for Houston, a move that doesn’t help the front court and could put added pressure on Davis, but that could change if the latest reports come to fruition.

Marc Stein of ESPN used twitter to report Milwaukee is looking to trade center Greg Monroe, a terrific talent, especially on the offensive end of the court and with the Pelicans need for help in the paint. It could be a perfect match if the two sides can come together at some point this summer.

The 25-year-old averaged 15.3 points and 8.8 rebounds last year in Milwaukee, but the team has added a couple big contracts through free agency, including center Miles Plumlee, leaving room for added depth in the back court and a need to rid themselves of money under the salary cap — a move that could land them the help they need either this year or during next summer’s free agent signing period.

Monroe was born in New Orleans and a homecoming would definitely benefit the franchise. The former first round pick of Detroit has averaged over 14 points and 9 rebounds in his short NBA career. Teaming with Davis could give the Pelicans a dynamic front court combination that could catapult this franchise into playoff contention, and at the very least, create some excitement in a state that could use some good news.

There are a couple other players on the trading block, including veteran Rudy Gay of Sacramento, but having two big men roaming the paint and slamming down some powerful dunks, would make the entire team better and make this franchise relevant for the first time in years.
