NBA Trade Rumors: Dwight Howard to Toronto Raptors?

Recent reports of the big man getting ready to opt-out of his contract after this season has created a buzz around the league, especially with those teams just one player away from making a move towards winning a championship.

Basketball Insiders has released an interesting read on what could happen around the league in the coming 12 months and Alex Kennedy has suggested the former first round pick could get traded. With Houston likely out of the running for his services after this season, trading the 6’11” center now could land them a couple quality players and possibly a draft choice.

Kennedy has listed the Toronto Raptors as a possible destination and it makes sense. This squad is loaded in the back court, but lack a true NBA center, that one player that can help on both ends of the floor and make a major impact on close games.

Howard is having the worst scoring season since his rookie year with Orlando, but a closer look at the numbers indicate he’s shooting much less than normal and not about his shot selection. The 30-year-old is averaging just over 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds per game this season and while those numbers are decent, a move to a team like Toronto could increase those stat lines back to his normal 18-20 points per game as he would become more instrumental in the Raptors offensive system.

Several rumors have involved the Canadian franchise over the last few weeks, including a possible deal for Joakim Noah, who is now on the trading block from Chicago, but adding a true star like Howard would generate some terrific energy for the team and its fans and make them a contender for a title this season.
