Management has done what it can to attract free agent talent, unfortunately it hasn’t been very successful, but they have been able to make trades with teams around the league to build a solid foundation and one of the best squads in the Eastern Conference.
With that being said, the franchise has fallen back in the latest power rankings, mostly because other organizations have been active during the summer, but also because the team lost some depth through free agency and are relying on rookies to supply depth, especially in the front court, but that could change if the latest rumors are true.
Several reports, including one from CBS Sports has All Star center DeMarcus Cousins likely done in Sacramento. The 26-year-old is coming off a gold medal performance with Team USA at the summer Olympics, but several NBA experts believe his time with the Kings is nearly finished as the team looks to rebuild without the big man.
Several teams have been linked in these rumors, but a deal with Toronto would make the Raptors an instant contender for a championship. This team already has one of the best back court duos in basketball, but adding a star center to the mix would make for an exciting combination.
With the start of training camps beginning at the end of this month, something would need to happen quickly and with the depth in the back court and future draft picks to use as compensation, this could become a win-win trade for both franchises and make the team from north of the border one of the most exciting squads to watch in the upcoming basketball season.
