NBA Trade Rumors: D’Angelo Russell to New Orleans Pelicans?

Last year’s top pick D’Angelo Russell is apparently on the trading block, according to recent reports. Lakers Nation has suggested the team is looking to deal the young point guard for a second pick in the opening round and while it seems a bit strange, the youngster wasn’t a big hit in the locker room last year.

Byron Scott lost his head coaching job after the worst season in franchise history and much of the misery came from the young group of players on the roster. The 20-year-old played well over the second half of the regular season, but his antics didn’t sit well with the veterans, so a trade shouldn’t come as a big shock.

The former Ohio State star averaged 13 points and three assists last year, not bad numbers considering the talent that surrounded the youngster, but a change of scenery could be best for him and the “purple and gold,” especially if he can land on a team that can use him correctly.

While the reports didn’t list a specific team, Bleacher Report did mention Los Angeles was looking for a top-5 selection and a closer look at the situation shows just a couple teams that might have some interest.

Boston makes the most sense with the Celtics owning three picks in the first round, including the third overall pick, but general manager Danny Ainge is looking for a veteran to help lead his young group and that alone could nix any deal between the two sides.

Another team looking for help in the back court and owns a high pick in the opening round in New Orleans. The Pelicans are looking to become more competitive in the NBA and could use the depth at the position. The latest mocks have the team taking a guard, making a deal more likely between the two sides with the needs of both organizations.
