One of the major reasons for the franchises failures of late is free agency. The front office has failed to sign any big name players and with Carmelo Anthony in the twilight of his brilliant career, the time is now for this team to finally makes some moves and get more star power in the “Big Apple.”
Anthony stood on the sidelines last summer, allowing management the space he thought they needed to add a star player, but once again they failed to add any players worth noting. That has the veteran taking a different approach before the free agent signing period begins this year.
The 31-year-old told reporters this week that he believes Rajon Rondo would be a great fit in New York, despite many experts suggesting his style of play wouldn’t fit well with the triangle offense the Knicks run.
“I think Rondo — just me personally, I don’t want to be tampering — but I’ve heard he said he wouldn’t thrive in a system like this,” Anthony said. “I think he’d be perfect in a system like this.”
The 30-year-old has never been known for shooting the basketball well, but his ability to lead an offense and dish the ball has never been questioned.
This past season, Rondo averaged nearly 12 points and 12 assists per game, but he also grabbed six rebounds per contest and two steals per game, numbers that have been a major sticking point with New York at the point guard position in recent years.
NBA experts agree that this team being competitive is great for the city and the league. The moves they make this summer will give fans a good idea of what to expect next season and adding the veteran point guard would be a great start in turning this franchise around.
