Nathan Adrian visits the Children’s Hospital Oakland

Adrian took some time off his busy schedule to spread some joy in the lives of children that are affected by pediatric illnesses such an cancer. The Olympic champion partnered up with the Jessie Rees Foundation, in an effort to hand out Joy Jars to children. The mission of the Jessie Rees Foundation is to spread joy, hope and love.

In a Twitter post, Adrian acknowledged that he “enjoyed handing out @TeamNEGU Joy Jars to kids!”

The Joy Jars are like a box of chocolates, where one never knows what they are going to get. They include such items as coloring books, toys, crayons, beanie bags, stuffed animals, or decks of cards, among other surprise goodies. The ongoing theme was: “Never Ever Give Up (NEGU),” to quote the late founder Jessie Rees.

USA Swimming posted a YouTube video on their official channel of Nathan Adrian’s visit to the pediatric hospital in Oakland, which may be seen below.

In this inspirational video, Adrian praised the Jessie Rees Foundation for doing “great things.” “It is so important for kids to still be kids, and to have toys, and that play time,” he said. “They are really helping to contribute to that. It is kind of fun for me, since you never know what is going to be in the Joy Jar!”
