Recent news of starting pitcher Zack Greinke opting-out of his contract and becoming a free agent could have a major role in what this team does over the winter. The front office does have the resources to add another big name free agent, but re-signing the veteran starting pitcher is priority one.
No matter what happens, rumors have already started on potential moves the “Boys in Blue” could make over the off-season and the one making the most headlines is adding lefty David Price.
The 29-year-old had a terrific season with Detroit and Toronto, but he once again hasn’t been dominating in the playoffs. Price finished the regular season with an 18-5 record and a terrific 2.45 ERA. Adding the hard-throwing ace would give the team one of the top pitching staffs in baseball and could make this squad favorites to win a title next season.
Los Angles could also use some help in the bullpen and Bleacher Report writer Rick Weiner has suggested adding reliever Joakim Soria, especially if he’s willing to pitch in the setup role in the seventh and eighth innings.
The 31-year-old has been a closer in the past with over 200 career saves, but he’s also pitched the setup role, including this past year with Pittsburgh, and his addition to the bullpen would be a significant upgrade that would take some pressure off the starters and give the Dodgers more opportunities to win close games.
This franchise is very close to playing for a ring and with the financial ability to add any player they want, this winter could be huge with several big name free agents available. If the front office can add the right pieces, there’s no question they could win a World Series title in 2016.
