MLB Power Rankings: Updated standings heading into September

Both squads have dropped just four games over the last month and for that reason, they have climbed from the middle of the pack to near the top in the latest MLB power rankings.

The Jays’ have played well for most of the season, but two big deals before the trade deadline have catapulted this franchise to fifth in Mike Harrington’s latest article. The 21-4 mark over the last 30 days is a franchise best and with David Price now leading the pitching staff, this isn’t a club any team in the American League wants to face when October rolls around.

Chicago is a different story as the Cubs front office has built this team on youth and energy. The Cubs have also gone 21-4 in August, their best mark since 1938, when they won the National League Championship and the youthful joy has carried over to the loyal fans and into fourth in the latest rankings.

St Louis is still on top as the Cardinals have been the most consistent team in baseball this season. With great pitching and a solid lineup, this squad has become virtually unbeatable at home, something that should scare the opposition when the MLB Playoffs begin and that’s why Las Vegas has the Cards’ favorites to win the World Series.

The Midwest is looking good in both leagues as Kansas City is sitting second overall and best in the American League heading into September, but with over a month of games left and plenty to play for, things could change in the coming weeks.

Baseball has some great story lines and Toronto and Chicago are both feel-good headliners, but teams are remembered for their play in October and until they prove themselves against the best, all the games to this point are just a good story.
