Maweather was referring to the statement of Top Rank Promotions chief executive Bob Arum, who claims that there is a 75 percent possibility that Mayweather will soon announce his ring return to face Pacquiao for the second time.
“Floyd called us and asked for tickets,” Arum says, “It’s a great sign. I’d love for the fight to happen. I’d make it 75 percent that it happens.” Arum told TMZ.com.
“Based on my experience, I feel like [Floyd’s] getting the itch to come back,” he added.
In an interview over at the Barclays Center in New York for the upcoming super middleweight world championship unification fight featuring Badou Jack against James DeGale on Jan. 14, Maywseather disagreed with Arum’s statement.
“Totally false,” Mayweather said of Arum’s words. “If you don’t hear it from my mouth, it’s not true.” Mayweather told RingTV.com
Talks of a brief meeting between Pacquiao and Mayweather inside Pacquiao’s room right after the Pacquiao-Vargas fight last Nov. 5, have fueled speculations that the much-talked about rematch will happen early next year.
Pacquiao confirmed that they indeed had a personal meeting last Nov. 5.
“We didn’t talk about the rematch. We just greeted each other when I invited him in my place after the fight,” Pacquiao said.
Pacquiao’s longtime trainer Freddie Roach believes that Mayweather’s private meeting with Pacquiao could lead to the long-awaited rematch as he recalls having met with Mayweather in his Wild Card Boxing Club on several occasion although they have not specifically talked about the possibility of a rematch.
