Liam Smith talks about rematch against Alvarez ahead of fight

Smith’s confidence level is so high that he has been talking about a rematch with Alvarez ahead of the Saturday night fight.

“Me beating Canelo would be special and I am confident I can do it. I can’t wait to see the reaction to it. Look at the reaction Brook is getting — and he got stopped after five rounds! He’s come out like a hero,” Smith said.

Smith isn’t just confident of victory, he also talked about a big payday in a rematch if he wins which Alvarez would likely welcome to avenge his loss.

The 28-year old native of Liverpool, England isn’t happy about his purse which is reported at £850,000 but he looks forward to increasing it five times if he wins and secures a rematch against Alvarez.

“When I win the fight I will get five times the amount next time for the rematch. But when I beat Canelo get your cheque book out because you’re paying me what I deserve for the rematch.” Smith said.

Smith (23-0-1,13 KOs) is coming off a second round KO win over Predrag Radošević last June at the Echo Arena, Liverpool, England.

Alvarez, who is favored to win over the unbeaten Briton, has been heavily criticized for picking Smith instead of Gennady Golovkin with whom he had an unofficial arrangement for a title fight this year.

Earlier this week, Smith’s trainer Joe Gallagher threatens to pull out from the fight if Alvarez fails to make the contracted weight of 154 pounds.

The 25-year-old native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, who is coming off a TKO win against Amir Khan last May, has not fought at 154 in at least five of his recent fights where he weighed a pound higher at 155 pounds.
