One name that has recently hit the news wire is Dwyane Wade and a move to Los Angeles would be a surprise, but the for the ‘purple and gold’ to win now, adding another veteran makes sense.
The 33-year-old is coming off another outstanding season with the Miami Heat, averaging 21.5 points and nearly five assists per game, but how would two superstar shooting guards co-exist? The answer is simple, move Kobe Bryant to the point guard position, allowing the veteran leader to run the floor.
With a good group of youngsters waiting in the wings, both players could get plenty of rest, but the move would also allow the veterans to teach the younger guys how to play in the NBA and go about life on and off the court.
While many believe Wade would be a long shot, several other quality free agents could make southern California home in the coming weeks. The biggest name connected with the team is LaMarcus Aldridge and his signing would jump this squad into a playoff contender.
Marc Gasol and Kevin Love have also been linked in reports, but Gasol recently told reporters he has no interest in moving west and Love has speculated he will stay in Cleveland.
Another option in the paint is DeAndre Jordan and while the 26-year-old isn’t the offensive type player of Aldridge, he is terrific on the glass and the type of shot blocker the franchise hasn’t had in years.
The LA Lakers franchise and its fans are proud and used to winning and the last few years have been hard to swallow. Buss is looking to turn things around and believes the team has all it needs to break out of their losing ways, especially if they can land the one big name player to play alongside their future Hall of Fame star.
