Katie Ledecky nominated for two 2018 Golden Goggle Awards

This year’s Golden Goggle ceremony will take place on November 19 at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel.

Ledecky is up for the coveted “Female Athlete of the Year” award, where she is nominated alongside Haley Anderson and Kathleen Baker.

In addition, Ledecky’s 1,500 meter freestyle race at the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series at Indianapolis has been nominated for the Golden Goggle award for “Female Race of the Year.” She will be vying against Kathleen Baker’s 100 meter backstroke at the national championships, Micah Sumrall’s 200 meter breaststroke at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, and Haley Anderson’s 10K open water race at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships.

For the past five consecutive years, from 2013 to 2017, Ledecky has won the Golden Goggle award for the prestigious “Female Athlete of the Year.” In 2012, she was also named “Breakout Performer of the Year.”

Throughout her athletic career in swimming, Ledecky has won a total of six Olympic medals, five of which were gold. Her first gold medal was at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she won the 800 meter freestyle race. Fast forward to 2016 in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Ledecky swept gold medals in the 200 meter freestyle, the 400 meter freestyle, the 800 meter freestyle, as well as the 4×200 meter freestyle relay race. Ledecky claimed the silver medal at the 4×100 meter freestyle race in Rio de Janeiro for Team USA.
