Two-time Olympic medalist and Norwegian athlete Karsten Warholm chatted about his 300 meter hurdles world record at the Wanda Diamond League Xiamen this past weekend (on April 26th).

Warholm won the 300 meter hurdles race with a record-breaking time of 33.05 seconds, and he spoke with members of the media following his race.

World record race

“Actually, I thought it was a very good race,” Warholm admitted. “I’m a little bit surprised over how easy my legs were feeling out the last bend.”

“Of course, you feel a little bit in the end, but after the last hurdle, I think I managed to really push the last 40 to 45 meters,” he added.

Training

The 29-year-old sprinter noted that his “training has been going quite well,” so he is “pretty happy.”

“I say this all the time, this is the level that I’m pushing for, and that’s where I want to be,” he expressed.

“So, this at least shows that the speed is there. The speed over the hurdles is there, and this is a very good test for speed and hurdles. So, it’s a very good first race for me,” he explained.

Future goals for the rest of the track and field season and beyond

On his goals for the rest of the season, he revealed, “I want to win as much as I can, and improve my level as much as possible. That’s the only goal all the time.”

“Actually, I’m hungry for more gold medals, believe it or not,” he noted.

Warholm on whether or not he was surprised by his World Record time

When asked about if he was surprised with his new World Record time of 33.05 seconds, he responded, “Both yes and no.”

“I knew it was in my body to perform that, but you obviously have to do it. I tried it one time in June of last year, but it didn’t work out for me, and this race was a lot better. So yeah, I knew I could do it,” he concluded.
