Henrik Sedin gets 200th NHL goal as Canucks clip Red Wings

Henrik Sedin’s 200th NHL goal

The Red Wings had the stronger third period, thanks in part to two early power plays in the period, but were down 2-0 late when Tomas Tatar ruined Ryan Miller’s shutout bid at 16:30 of the period, setting the stage for Sedin’s milestone. Other goals for Vancouver were from Alex Edler and Radim Vrbata.

On his 200th NHL goal, his brother Daniel skated the puck over the Canucks blue-line and past to Henrik on the boards; he was about to be met by a Detroit defender so he took the shot he had at the empty net from his side of the red line, and hit it.

There was still close to two minutes left so Detroit pulled goalie Jimmy Howard again and Henrik was again set up by Daniel, who flipped Henrik the puck again at the Canucks blue line. This time Henrik had time to skate alone right up to the Wings empty net and slide it in.

It took Sedin, who also had an assist on the night, 14 games to reach the milestone and while it’s not a giant number of goals for a 34-year-old who is in his 14th year in the league, he is, after all, more a set-up man. The scorer of the twins is brother Daniel, who had three assists on the night.

Sedin brothers NHL scoring

Daniel has 315 NHL goals to go along with 525 career assists for 840 points. Henrik makes up for lagging behind in scoring by adding 675 assists to his newly-minted 201 goals for a total of 876 points, Henrik has played 1,047 games to Daniel’s 1016.

To stay with the Sedin’s points production, combined they have 1,716 points, which in the all-time NHL family-scoring derby has them in 14th spot. The family scoring numbers are not official but rather compiled by this writer. Here are the top twenty scoring families in NHL history:
