Flora Carrella brings a rare blend of charisma and focus to the court. Not just in the way she commands a padel court with precision and poise, but in how she talks about the sport – with passion, intelligence, and a deeply thoughtful approach that sets her apart. A former competitive tennis player turned padel coach and athlete, Flora isn’t just riding the wave of padel’s booming popularity, she’s actively shaping its future.
Her journey begins on a different court. “My background in competitive tennis has been a huge asset in shaping my approach as a padel coach,” she shares. Tennis gave her the fundamentals: discipline, footwork, and court awareness, which are skills that would later morph into her signature coaching style. But transitioning from tennis to padel wasn’t just a matter of skill; it was a shift in mindset.
In 2019, during an internship in Granada as a physiotherapist, Flora stumbled upon a local padel club. “Intrigued by the sound of the balls, I decided to step inside the facility. It was love at first sight,” Carrella recalls. That moment, serendipitous and simple, sparked a transformation. From then on, padel became her obsession.
Relearning the game
Of course, passion alone doesn’t eliminate the learning curve and occasional challenges. “One of the first adjustments I had to make was recognizing the presence of a glass wall behind me… and accepting the possibility of letting the ball pass behind me in order to hit it forward.” For a seasoned tennis player, this was radical. Flora had to relearn her instincts: how to manage overheads, how to position her body differently, and how to retrain her footwork to match padel’s unique rhythm. As a coach, she also had to rework the mechanics she had once taken for granted. “The preparation and follow-through require a different approach,” she explains.
What elevates Flora beyond the average coach isn’t just her technical mastery or her smooth pivot between two sports, it’s her philosophy that she carries through every aspect of the sport. Equal parts coach and physiotherapist, she brings a body-first awareness to every session. “I prioritize footwork, helping players understand how proper positioning and balance can significantly impact the quality and consistency of their shots,” she says. Her approach is holistic, grounded in injury prevention and efficient movement, but also brimming with humanity. “I also value patience, discipline, and clear communication.”
From competitor to coach: A shift in purpose
For Flora Carrella, these values aren’t just ideas, they are her foundation. She has learned from some of the best, working with high-level athletes and respected coaches, and what she’s taken away is that greatness lies in the details. “What truly sets top athletes apart is their discipline, adaptability, and ability to stay focused under pressure.” That wisdom now permeates her sessions, not just as technical advice but as emotional guidance. Her players aren’t just learning a sport; they’re learning self-awareness, resilience, and confidence which are essential tools for success but often undervalued.
And while she’s clearly a gifted teacher, Flora is still a serious player. She has represented major Italian teams in the Serie B national Circuit, including Bari in 2023 and San Benedetto del Tronto in 2024, and currently competes for Montefalcone Village in Serie C. In 2024, she and her partner won the Puglia Regional Championship a prestigious national-level title that positioned her among Italy’s elite players, earning a spot at the Final Master Slam in Sardinia, reserved exclusively for the top eight women’s doubles teams in the entire country, underscoring the national recognition of her competitive standing. She also qualified for the preliminary rounds of the FIP Major of Rome, held at the iconic Foro Italiano, one of the most prestigious stages in the sport. In addition, she has competed internationally at high-level FIP tournaments, including the FIP Promotion Giulianova, FIP RISE Arena Fastweb and FIP RISE open MVC. These achievements aren’t just personal milestones, they are tools she brings into her coaching.. “These experiences help me guide younger players not only in their technical development but also in their overall match preparation,” she explains. From warm-up routines to post-match recovery, Flora’s coaching toolkit is comprehensive. She’s not just building athletes, she’s also focusing on building well-rounded individuals.
Institutional recognition and global exposure
Flora’s expertise hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2025, she was among a select group of athletes chosen by Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP) to join the National Training Camp for athletes over 18, a prestigious program led by national technical director Marcela Ferrari and her elite coaching team. She is also certified by FITP as an ISI Padel and IS1 Tennis Coach. With academic degrees in both physiotherapy and sports science, Flora brings a uniquely informed, injury-preventive perspective to every coaching session.
Changing the narrative around padel
Perhaps what makes Flora’s presence in the padel world so vital is how she’s helping change perceptions. “One common misunderstanding, especially among tennis players, is thinking that padel is ‘just a game’ rather than a true sport,” she says. But Flora sees padel for what it is: a demanding, dynamic sport that tests your reflexes, footwork, strategy, and mental grit. And it’s precisely that complexity that fuels her passion. “Padel may look simple at first, but mastering it requires dedication, discipline, and a deep understanding of the game’s specific dynamics.”
Her ambitions are anything but small. “There’s real momentum behind the sport, and many of us hope to see it become part of the Olympic Games in the near future,” she says. Carrella wants to be part of that evolution, not just as a player or coach, but as a builder of community and culture. She believes in padel’s inclusivity, its accessibility, and its power to connect. “I aim to inspire new players, support their development, and help build a strong, positive culture around the sport, both on and off the court.”
Looking forward: Building more than athletes
Looking ahead, her goals are clear and grounded. Personally, she wants to push her limits as a player. Professionally, she dreams of being rooted in a club where she can foster long-term growth such as building programs, supporting athletes, and creating a space where people don’t just improve their game but also their confidence and self-belief.
“For me, padel is more than a sport; it’s a tool for connection, growth, and community,” Flora says.
And it shows. In every training session, every tournament, and every conversation, Flora brings that vision to life. She’s not just teaching players how to win points, she’s teaching them how to move, how to think, and how to believe in themselves.
In a sport that’s rapidly expanding, Flora Carrella distinguishes herself not only for her talent, but also for her institutional recognition, national championship honors, and international presence. She is one of the few Italian women to excel across both national and international circuits, earning recognition as a rising figure in the sport. Part athlete, part strategist, part mentor, she exemplifies how extraordinary coaching is not just about knowing the game, but about shaping the future of padel itself.
