The 33-year old Diaz (23-7-2, 15KOs), who hails from Managua, Nicaragua, is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Jorge Moreno last April. He is an orthodox fighter and stands almost three inches taller than Magsayo.
Diaz is confident he will deliver Magsayo’s first career defeat using his ring experience of 32 career fights since turning pro in 2004.
Diaz has a reach and height advantage over Magsayo which he may capitalize to beat the 22 year-old native of Tagbilaran City.
“I want to send all Cebuano fans greetings from Nicaragua. I want to invite them to buy their tickets not only to watch a great fight, but also to witness the first defeat of their great champion, Mark Magsayo,” Diaz said.
Magsayo, who remains unbeaten in 16 career fights since turning pro in 2013, is coming off a TKO win against Issa Nampepeche last April to keep his WBO International featherweight title
Before his first round TKO win against Nampepeche, Magsayo scored a unanimous decision win over Mexican Ramiro Robles following his 6th round TKO win against Mexican-American Chris Avalos of Lancaster, California last April at the Cebu City Sports Complex, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines. Read more.
The the main supporting bouts for the Magsayo-Diaz fight include the Super Bantamweight fight between Jeo “Santino” Santisima and undefeated Tanzanian Super Bantamweight champion Goodluck Mrema and “Prince” Albert Pagara versus former IBF Pan Pacific featherweight champ Aekkawee Kaewmanee of Thailand.
