Despite all the turmoil, newly appointed Clay Helton has taken the reigns and begun a late charge up the latest recruiting rankings and with the news that five-star recruit Oluwole Betiku is now headed to town, the team’s verbal commitments are beginning to look strong.
Betiku was leaning towards UCLA, but things changed over the last couple of months and after a long sit down with Helton, the high school All American defensive end is now ready to wear the Cardinal and Gold in 2016.
With Max Browne set to takeover the starting quarterback duties next season, the team concentrated on finding some play makers for the young signal caller.
Five wide receivers and a tight end head the list of verbal commitments. Southern California products Tyler Vaughns, Michael Pittman, and Trevon Sidney all come to campus with great resumes and all will get a shot at making an immediate impact with a strong summer of work.
Helton and his staff have added two top-ranked offensive lineman, which should help Browne and the offense over the next four years. Nathan Smith and Frank Martin are both ready to take that next step in helping lead the Trojans by opening holes in the running game and protecting their prized signal caller.
USC is not the only PAC 12 program making headlines this winter. Oregon, UCLA, and Stanford are all ranked inside the latest top-20 from Yahoo’s Rivals.com and with the conference having such a strong showing in the Bowls, the exposure will only help all the schools in the future.
