Olympic gold medalist and world champion swimmer Nathan Adrian chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about the 2021 “Make a Splash Virtual Tour” and his 50 meter free race at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis.

“The ‘Make a Splash Virtual Tour’ has been good,” Adrian said. “There is important work that still need to be done. I think that swim schools and swim lesson providers all over the United States have a lot of demand. We are doing our absolute best to try to increase our hours and get more instructors trained.”

“We need to do a lot of work to catch up,” he said.

On May 15, Adrian won the men’s 50 meter freestyle final at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis. Adrian clocked 22.13 seconds, with Koko Bratanov in second place (22.25 seconds), and Michael Chadwick in third place with 22.29 seconds.

On his race, Adrian remarked, “My stroke was clicking on the last 25, which was what I was looking for. The first 25 was regrettable, but that’s all right.”

“I’ve done this for enough time to where I’m not super upset about it, but I’d like that one back. We will definitely step up and race again when we get home and try and clean up that first 25 a bit,” he elaborated.

His plans from now until the U.S. Olympic Trials are to get faster. “I am getting my lactate profiles which is always interesting and good information to take back to Dave [Durden],” he said. “It’s going to be a balancing act of doing my best and spending a lot of time with Parker and Hallie, and trying to get as much sleep as possible.”

With June coming up, Adrian will be looking forward to his first Father’s Day. “Father’s Day is certainly going to be very exciting,” he said. “I understand why Mother’s Day is so much of a bigger event to be honest. They deserve it and every bit of it. For these first three months, I was playing backup quarterback and Hallie was definitely taking the lead. I was just trying to help her out where and when I can. She has been doing such a great job.”
