On July 22, Olympian JuVaughn Harrison chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos as part of a virtual press conference that was hosted by USA Track and Field.
At the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials in Track and Field that were held at the new Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, Harrison finished in first place both the men’s high jump (2.33 meters), and the men’s long jump (8.47 meters). Harrison will be representing Team USA in both events.
On the greatest lesson that the sport of track and field has taught him, Harrison responded, “I learned one of my biggest lessons in my freshman year of college. I was frustrated at nationals because I wasn’t performing my best, and it made me perform even worse.”
“I learned that frustration helps nothing,” he admitted. “During a meet, you have to keep a calm and level head regardless of what is going on around you or how you are performing, good or bad.”
“So always keep a level head and focus on what you are doing. If you have a bad meet, you have a bad meet, it happens. There is no need to stress too much over it. Go back and look what you did, and fix it,” he added.
