Amir Khan hopes to get Mayweather or Pacquiao – after they fight

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Off and on

At various times in all the back and forth about whether Mayweather and Pacquiao would finally meet in the ring, Khan has entered the picture and said he would love to fight the Filipino or the American. He tried to get Mayweather to fight him, and his management and Top Rank’s Bob Arum talked about Khan being Pacquiao’s next opponent if it’s not Mayweather.

But though he’s resigned that the two likely will fight one another first, he’ll be waiting when it’s over. The 28-year-old understands he needs to fight them before they get too much older (Pacquiao is 36, Mayweather 38 next week); already any win against either would have an asterisk next to it — one that says he beat them on their way down.

He hopes it all happens soon.

“We are all waiting for that announcement. (But) anything can happen,” Khan told Skysports.com. “Mayweather may not announce that he’s fighting Pacquiao. It could be myself. We have to wait for that announcement and then see where we go. For the winner or the loser, it would be a massive fight. I think I am on their radar.’

Amir Kahn: Fight fan

He also told Skysports he’ll be watching Pacman and Money hook up if it goes down. Why? “Because I’m a huge boxing fan myself,” he said. “It’s a fight that everyone has been waiting for. I want to see it myself as well.”

As for his next fight, his camp may look into an all-British bout against Kell Brook in May, the same month Pacquiao and Mayweather will fight.

One problem Malinowski reported is that the Mayweather-Pacquiao contract stipulates there be a rematch in the autumn. There’s also the possibility both those fighters could retire after battling one another; Mayweather has already said 2015 would be his last year.

So Khan could be waiting a very long time indeed.
