Amir Khan gives up on Mayweather, Pacquiao, says bout will happen

Khan told Sky Sports he has spoken to Mayweather and Pacquiao and was convinced that the fight that every boxing fan wants to see will happen.

“I think they are hopefully fighting each other in May. I think I probably have missed that chance of fighting Floyd or Manny, said Khan who is yet to find his next opponent for his planned ring return this year.

“I was speaking to both parties. It was going to happen. But because I’m a huge boxing fan myself I can’t really argue. It’s a fight that everyone has been waiting for. I want to see it myself as well.”

Khan mentioned Miguel Cotto and Timothy Bradley as possible opponents for his next fight but there is nothing definite at this time.

It appears that his planned fight against Kell Brook won’t happen soon as Brook will be facing Canadian Jo Jo Dan to defend his IBF welterweight title on March 28. Khan wants his next fight to happen in May.

Khan is coming of a unanimous decision victory against Devon Alexander last December to retain his WBC silver welterweight title. He has won his last four fights since losing to Danny Garcia via TKO in 2012.

Still, Khan isn’t giving up hope that he will soon have the opportunity to face either Mayweather or Pacquiao for a lucrative, career-defining fight.

“For the winner or the loser, it would be a massive fight. Manny and Mayweather are huge names in boxing. I think I am on their radar,” Khan added.
