American swimmer Alex Walsh won the women’s 200 meter individual medley (IM) final at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis. Digital Journal has the recap.
Walsh clocked 2:10.67, with Kate Douglass in second place with a time of 2:10.74, and Beata Nelson in third place with 2:13.01.
“That felt really good,” Walsh admitted. “I thought it was a great race. Obviously, my teammate Kate Douglass was right next to me. We train together every day in practice so it was good to have her next to me, she pushes me really hard. I am really happy with the outcome though.”
“I saw (Kate Dougless) right there next to me the whole time, I knew she was going to be there, so I had to dig deep to get my hand on the wall first. The great thing about racing her is that she pushes me—especially in practice, we really push each other. I really like having her there and I don’t think I would have gone as fast if I didn’t have her there,” she elaborated.
Regarding her future plans, Walsh shared, “For now, I am staying at UVA in Charlottesville until Trials, and then, depending on what happens there, I will go home hopefully for only a couple of days. Obviously, the goal is to make the Olympic team.”
