Here is a closer look at the top college players in the nation and where they could begin their professional careers next year.
Quarterbacks are always a premium and every franchise is always looking for that star signal caller that can help lead a team to the promised land. Cleveland is one such franchise as the Browns have struggled under center since returning to the league and after numerous attempts to find the right player, fans of the team are hoping it happens next April.
The latest mock from Walter Football has DeShone Kizer of Notre Dame as the pick at this point. But experts aren’t in agreement as several sources have Clemson’s Deshaun Watson as the top quarterback in next years player rankings. No matter who the front office chooses, they need to get it right or risk setting this organization back another five years.
San Francisco will likely take a new offensive leader and should take Kizer or Watson, depending on where they pick. With a new head coach that likes mobile quarterbacks, both of these youngsters would be a good fit with the 49ers and hopefully the player that leads them to their next Super Bowl title.
Brad Kaaya of Miami is another signal caller with first round potential. The Hurricanes QB is projected in the latter half of the opening round with Arizona his likely landing spot. The Cardinals must find a replacement for veteran Carson Palmer and its a good situation as the youngster gets to learn the ropes from a veteran and won’t feel the pressure of having to perform immediately.
Chad Kelly opened some eyes with his game against Alabama on Saturday. The Ole’ Miss leader does have some questions concerning his judgement when under pressure, but his arm strength and pedigree suggest he could become a starter in the NFL.
Draft Site has suggested the Rebels star could land with the 49ers, but only if they pass on a quarterback in the first round. New Orleans and Kansas City could both use some future help and under the right situation, Kelly could become solid under center and help a franchise to the playoffs.
