Cleveland is looking good with two picks in the first round and most experts believe defensive end Myles Garrett of Texas A&M will be the first player taken, but who they take next is still up in the air.
The Browns need an offensive leader, a player that can finally guide this franchise to the playoffs. Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson might be the player after a terrific college career, but the front office for this team hasn’t done well in the past when making selections, so it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see this organization take a flyer on someone with far less abilities.
San Francisco is second up and several sources have the 49ers looking to move down in the order to collect more draft picks. This team also needs a change at quarterback and North Carolina youngster Mitchell Trubisky has been linked with the bay area franchise.
Chicago is next and its believed the Bears will take the next best defensive player available. Stanford product Solomon Thomas is a logical choice, but safety Malik Hooker of Ohio State could be the choice based on need.
Jacksonville is fourth and this is where things could get interesting. The Jags’ need to find help for quarterback Blake Bortles, leading several NFL experts to believe LSU running back Leonard Fournette, who is the best back in the latest player rankings as their main target, but this franchise has never done as expected and that could lead to Alabama’s defensive lineman Jonathan Allen being the pick.
Tennessee rounds out the top-5 and the Titans have needs in the secondary and at wide receiver. With no wide out projected this early in the opening round, corner Marshon Lattimore has been linked by several sources as the teams top option next week.
This time of year brings out the passionate fans as they know what their favorite team needs, but the drama and intrigue of the draft is like a soap opera and until the whole weekend plays out, one just never knows what to expect until the final name is called in round seven.
