2016 San Francisco 49ers Mock Draft: Offense key to quick rebuild

The biggest issue heading into the 2016 NFL Draft is that this year’s draft class is weak with signal callers and with all the other needs for this franchise, rumors of signing a veteran free agent to battle with Blaine Gabbert appears the best option for the organization.

Depending on what the front office decides, the latest mocks have the team concentrating on the offensive line and wide receiver with their early picks.

Bleacher Report suggests tackle Ronnie Stanley from Notre Dame, but Eddie Brown of The San Diego Union-Tribune believes wide receiver Laquon Treadwell of Mississippi is a better option. In either case, both of these positions need some youth and depth.

Depending on what direction they go in the opening round, management should continue the pursuit of more depth for the offense in round two. Indiana’s offensive tackle Jason Spriggs or wide receiver Josh Doctson of TCU are both terrific options if available early in the second round and the type of players the 49ers need to get back as a regular contenders in the NFC West.

San Francisco could have a much different look in 2016 with nearly every roster spot up for grabs, not usually a good thing for NFL teams, but a must for a franchise that lost so much talent and while most believe the offense will get the most attention, the defense is also in need of an overhaul.

Walter Football’s latest release has linebacker Tyler Matakevich of Temple as a solid option in the third round. With good instincts and tough against the run, Matakevich could become an instant starter and the anchor in the middle of the defense for the next few years.
