Of course the biggest question entering the off-season is where will this franchise play football next season, but no matter where they land, rebuilding an awful offensive line and finding more depth on defense is needed or its going to be another long year next season.
Fans of the team can’t look at any mock drafts and see anything but an offensive lineman as the team,s top priority, and it makes sense. Without protection, Rivers struggled with his lack of mobility and the offense failed to score points.
Laremy Tunsil of Ole’ Miss and Ronnie Stanley of Notre Dame are the top-ranked offensive tackles in the latest player rankings and depending on which players available when the Chargers take the clock in the first round, will determine who they select to anchor their line for the next few years.
Eddie Brown of The San Diego Union-Tribune put in his two cents in a recent article and suggested the front office uses the teams second round pick on defensive tackle Austin Johnson of Penn State. The junior is expected to leave college and enter the 2016 NFL Draft and with his size, 6’4″ and 325 pounds, he could be the run stopper this franchise needs to compete with the much-improved teams in the AFC West.
The center position was a major disappointment in 2015 and rumors have the team likely to use the free agent signing period to find some help. Walter Football has the answer if they don’t add a veteran, Jack Allen of Michigan State.
With everything going on with this franchise, they must move the ball better in 2016 to win football games. The line will see plenty of new faces next season and if this group can help Rivers, the San Diego Chargers could be a dark horse to make the playoffs next season.
