Despite the success of the offense, this team will need to improve on the other side of the ball to have any hope of making the playoffs.
With the regular season now finished, nearly every football site has released its latest mock drafts and a closer look at the majority of these projections have this franchise looking for help in the secondary and a pass rushing end to pressure opposing quarterbacks.
This team was involved in several high scoring contests, mostly because the defense couldn’t slow down the oppositions passing game. Walter Football has help coming with Florida State youngster Jalen Ramsey set to become a Jag in 2016.
CBS Sports is also in agreement as this team has failed to take a corner in the first round since 1999 and help is needed immediately. Ramsey is second at his position in the latest NFL Draft player rankings and a top-10 talent overall.
The second round is where this team can find some help with the pass rush. Shilique Calhoun of Michigan State can play end or outside linebacker and that versatility could make him an intricate part of the Jacksonville defense for the next few years.
Don’t be surprised if the front office looks for more help in the secondary in the third round. Maurice Canady of Virginia and Mackensie Alexander of Clemson are both graded as late second or early third round candidates and both of these young men have the skill to make an impact as rookies.
If the front office can add a couple veterans on defense, this team has a legitimate shot at making the playoffs in 2016, especially with Bortles and company having another year of experience under their belts.
