Ben Simmons of LSU is the top ranked prospect in the latest player rankings. Some experts consider the Australian the best young talent since LeBron James entered the league, but with Philadelphia as his likely landing spot, it could be a few years before he makes a big impact on the lowly 76ers.
The latest mock from Draft Express has the LA Lakers making the second over selection. Los Angeles hasn’t had a go-to small forward since James Worthy, but that could change with the addition of Brandon Ingram from Duke. At 6’9″ he has good size, but his explosive moves in the paint and ability to hit from 15 feet, make this youngster a special player and one the ‘purple and gold’ could really use as the look to transition out of the Kobe Bryant era.
The third pick is where things could get interesting. Boston has several picks in the 2016 NBA Draft, including three selections in the first round, but if a trade is going to happen, this is the spot. The Celtics need help in the front court, but GM Danny Ainge would like a veteran influence, dealing this or a couple other picks for the help he’s looking for is a strong possibility as Boston doesn’t need another five or six young players on their roster.
Kris Dunn of Providence is the best point guard available and the fact he’s played three years of college ball should help increase his stock as the summer approaches. The junior is averaging 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists for the Friars and a team like Minnesota or Phoenix should jump at the chance to select the 21-year-old early in the first round.
