Despite these moves, this squad still lacks size, especially in the paint, leading many basketball experts to believe they will address these needs in the off season.
With two picks in the first round, the latest mock drafts have the team adding size, not only in height, but also in mass. One of the best options early in the opening round is Gonzaga power forward Domantas Sabonis. At 6’10” 240 pounds, not only does he have the size this squad needs, he also is the son of Arvydas Sabonis, who played several years in the league and knows what it takes to succeed as a professional.
Sabonis is averaging over 17 points and 10 rebounds per game for the ‘Zags this season and his improvement over the last 12 months have scouts and general managers taking notice. The youngster is shooting .662 for the year, but will need to provide a bit more support on the defensive end to become an all-around player.
Skal Labissiere of Kentucky could be another option as the youngster has dropped in the latest player rankings, but his 6’11’ frame and tremendous athletic ability, make him a player worth taking a look at next summer.
With their selection in the back half of the first round, finding a scoring threat off the bench is likely. Toronto has one of the top back court duos in the NBA, in DeMar Derozan and Kyle Lowry, but could use some help at shooting guard.
Caris LeVert of Michigan fits the need for a scorer and a player with size. At 6’7″ he has the height to shoot over the opposition and help on the defensive end of the court.
The 21-year-old has played four years for the Wolverines and his experience has shown in his play this year. A solid outside shooter and a guard that can rebound, makes him a solid choice for the Raptors in 2016.
