Detroit Lions News: Still no word on status for Calvin Johnson

While the team and the league awaits “Megatron’s” decision, the front office for the team is under heavy pressure to possibly find a replacement and give quarterback Mathew Stafford a much-needed weapon for the 2016 season.

Several reports on possible replacements have hit social media in recent weeks and many suggest using the upcoming NFL Draft to find the right player. With no real big name wide outs available through free agency, the franchise will need to get this selection right or risk another losing season.

The biggest issue for management is this franchise has some big holes on the defensive side of the ball and using their top pick on offense wouldn’t help, but scoring more points and hanging on to the football would, so with that being said, here’s a look at the latest mocks and potential youngsters that could start their football career in the Motor City.

There’s no doubt Ole’ Miss prospect Laquon Treadwell is the cream of the crop in 2016. With excellent size at 6’2″ and 210 pounds, along with terrific hands and explosive speed, many have compared the young man to Dez Bryant and if available, the Detroit Lions need to grab this young man in a hurry.

Golden Tate will be the other starting wide receiver and that likely means the team will look for a player with size in the Draft. Michael Thomas of Ohio State meets those needs with his 6’3″ frame. His size would be a great fit for a team needing help in the red zone and his length makes for a good match up against smaller corners. Another plus is he could be available in the second round, allowing the team to concentrate on the defensive side of the ball in the first round.
