The latest mocks and player rankings still have Duke’s super freshman Jahil Okafor as the top player available. The young seven-footer has a rare combination of size, athleticism, and the ability to dominate on both ends of the court, but despite his certainty as the top player taken in June, a couple other youngsters are quickly gaining ground.
New York has struggled this season and injuries to key players haven’t helped, but if the Knicks were to land the talented center, big changes in the Eastern Conference could take place next season.
Philadelphia is again having trouble winning basketball games, but the 76ers are sure to land another talented youngster and should begin to make improvements with another strong draft. The front office has used the past two years to land some big men to play in the paint, that should change with the team deciding between Emmanuel Mudiay, who skipped college and is playing in China, or D’Angelo Russell of Ohio State. Both are extremely gifted point guards that can score, but also make those around them better with their leadership and ability to pass the ball.
The LA Lakers’ have again struggled and changes must be made. This team needs an identity outside of Kobe Bryant and with a rare early pick in the first round, this selection could make or break this franchise for the next five years.

This years NBA Draft is deep in depth, especially at center and several franchises could benefit. With a good off season, the power rankings in the league could have a much different feel in twelve months time.
