The 57-second clip captures what the video uploader calls an “electrical fireball” as it travels down power lines outside a Lachine residence owned by a man identified as Huw Griffiths.
The video begins slowly, with voices saying “Oh my god” and a buzzing hum heard from outside. Trained on the power lines, the lens focuses on a fast-moving fireball running across the wires. The electrical phenomenon soon appears close to the home, zips by and bursts out of the camera’s range.
The filmmaker seems visibly shaken and the last words of the video are, “Oh my god. On my god. That is not cool.”
As of Saturday night, the YouTube video attracted 632,000 views within 24 hours.
Friday night saw a heavy wind storm ravage parts of Montreal, causing 350,00 Quebecers to lose power. The strong winds clocked in at around 100 kilometres an hour, according to media reports.
As of 11 p.m. ET, Hydro-Quebec Twitter’s account updated: “The power has been restored for more than 90% of the affected customers.”
